The Red Cross of Constantine
To give the Order its full and proper title, The Masonic and Military Order of the Red Cross of Constantine and the Orders of the Holy Sepulchre and of St John the Evangelist, you will hopefully immediately see that the Order is split into two distinct parts.
The initial ceremony consists of the Candidate’s admission, obligation, Installation as a Knight-Companion of the Red Cross of Constantine. It is in this ceremony that the historical basis of the Order is explained.
In additional ceremonies, the Installation as a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre and the Installation as a Knight of St. John the Evangelist, (otherwise known as the Appendant Orders), the Knight-Companion builds on what he has already been taught and the ultimate aims of Freemasonry are revealed.
These three ceremonies, together with the two Installation ceremonies leading to the principal Chairs in the Red Cross of Constantine, are both beautiful and thought provoking, and will certainly leave a lasting impression on the candidate.
Departed Merit
Ill Knight Terence Sloan a well-known and respected Knight throughout the division has sadly but peacefully passed away on the 2nd of September.
Terence was renowned for his enthusiastic presentation of ritual in conclaves in the division along with his love and support for our Christian order in general.
He will be sadly missed by the brethren of his conclaves and the many friends he had made during his voyage through Masonry.
“Rest now, brave knight; your watch is ended, your battles won, and your honour untarnished.”
The funeral of Terry SLOAN will be held on Monday, 28 September 2026, at the All Saint’s Church, 2, Church Road, EXMOUTH, EX8 1RZ. The church is just off Exeter Road near the Primary School.
The service will start at 11.00 am. The wake will be held afterwards at the Exmouth Masonic Hall, St Andrew’s Road, EXMOUTH, EX8 1AP.
There are two issues that those attending should be aware of. There is major roadworks on the main road (A376) leading into Exmouth, that may cause delays. There is limited parking around the church, so it is suggested that attendees park in the main car parks near the Rugby Club, walk to the church (about 10 minutes), and then walk back to the Masonic Hall afterwards.
